14/12/09 What kind of media institution might disturbute your media product and why?
If our media product was a Major feature film we would have to distribute it would be through the "film distribution association" (fda) as the fda is an umbrella organization for individual distribution companies such as "Icon" or "Universal". They would then distribute it to the cinemas like odeon and the vue but also to small independent cinemas like parkway. They would also arrange the publicity such as posters, trailers and also arranging the stars of the film for interviews.
The posters and trailers that would be used to create hype for our media product is known as above the line advertising and that is what the distribution company have to pay for, we would also have below the line advertising where we would go and talk about our media product on chat shows like the Jonathan Ross show were we would talk about our media product and this is normally free but arranged by the distribution company but co ordinated with the shows as they need content for that show so generally the show makers and the distribution company are compliant with each other.
But the best way for our Media product to be distributed will probably be done with web 2.0 as user generated content is the best way to get a lot of views from around the world and it would be cheaper than any other method. A web site that we may use is "YouTube" as it is easy to use and has a high viewer rating. We know that it may do well as there was a retirement video that was made for one of our teachers leaving De-Aston and the views had around 2000 or more and i think that some of those views were with other people in the room when it was on so roughly i think the amount of people that saw that short film was around 5000 or more and that is if there was only one other person in the room when the video was getting played.
